Mental Health Monday
Let’s have a heart-to-heart about Mental Health 🧠❣️
Normally I like to talk about fitness here, and while this is fitness related to an extent, I feel that there’s a side to the “Just Do It” trend that doesn’t address mental health.
In the fitness community it’s common to hear motivational quotes that range from carefree to borderline hostile. Don’t get me wrong, these help SO MANY people get the inspiration to get up and get moving. However, when it comes to mental health these don’t always work.
Sometimes motivational quotes aren’t going to do the trick because laziness isn’t what’s deterring you. Maybe your ability to start your journey is hindered by stress, fear, mental exhaustion or something entirely different. Too often mental health is overlooked in this community, but ignoring it can be detrimental to not only your well-being but also your physical health.
While exercise has been proven to help boost cognitive function, sometimes you just need a little support. You could try getting a workout partner, a trainer for accountability, or a program to know what your next steps are. It’s never too late to ask for help!
Here are a few things you can do to help improve your emotional state:
🧠 Get enough sleep! - Sleep helps regulate chemicals in your brain that help manage your mood
🧠 Catch some rays - Vitamin D helps reduce depression☀️
🧠 Do something you enjoy - put time aside to read your favorite book, or watch your favorite TV show
🧠 Connect with people who you have a good relationship with
🧠 Exercise! Even if it’s only for 15 minutes, exercise boosts the chemicals in your brain that puts you in a good mood
